Wheelock's Early Childhood Education (ECE) program excels in the preparation of early childhood practitioners and leaders.  In this innovative program, you can earn a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Master's degree in Early Childhood Education with Massachusetts licensure in Early Childhood Education (PreK - Grade 2) or a Master's degree in Care and Education in Early Childhood Settings.

Wheelock's ECE programs focus on comprehensive education and care of children aged birth to 8 years old.  Early Childhood professionals work with young children and their families, supporting all aspects of their development and growth.  In addition, Wheelock's early childhood programs are nationally recognized by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).

Highlights:

Our Early Childhood Programs are designed for students who will work with young children from birth to 8 years of age in public, private and parochial care and education settings as care givers, classroom teachers, lead teachers, directors, and/or family liaison workers.  All of our degree programs prepare students to work with an increasingly diverse population of children, families and communities.

Additional Programs offered at Wheelock College:

  • Full degree programs at the undergraduate leading to either the Elementary 1-6 or Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities PreK-8 MA license at the initial level. 
  • Integrated Elementary and Special Education Program at the Master's level leading to both MA initial licenses in Elementary 1-6 and Teachers of Students with Moderate Disabilities PreK-8.
  • Six 12-credit approved certificates approved to advance a MA initial license in early education or elementary education to the professional level.

Dual Degree Program - Early Childhood Education with Fifth Year Master's leading to (PreK-2) Licensure

In this innovative program the Bachelor's degree plus a Master's degree in Early Childhood Education with Massachusetts licensure in Early Childhood Education (PreK-grade 2) is earned in just five years of full-time study.

Early Childhood PreK-2 for Initial Licensure - Master's Degree

The 37-credit Early Childhood Education (PreK-2) Master's Program is designed to prepare professionals who wish to pursue careers in public schools, child care programs, Head Start programs, and community - or - corporate-based early care and education settings.

Care and Education in Early Childhood Settings - Master's Degree

Care and Education in Early Childhood Settings, a 30 credit master's program is designed for students who will work with young children from 2.8 to 8 years of age in public, private and parochial care and education settings.   

Early Childhood Education - Bachelor of Science Degree

The Early Childhood Education Major focuses on comprehensive education and care of children birth to 8-years old and professional work with their families and communities.
