Bridgewater State University

The Department of Elementary and Early Childhood Education in the College of Education and Allied Studies has two early childhood majors:

  • Early Childhood Licensure, PreK-Grade 2 (preparation for DESE licensure)
  • Early Education and Care, Birth-K (preparation for DEEC certification)

Both majors are offered on the Bridgewater campus.  The Early Education and Care major is also offered at the new Bridgewater Cape Cod campus.

Highlights:

The DESE major is a daytime program for full-time students.  Most of the major is completed during the senior year: one semester in methodology courses, one in student teaching.

The DEEC major is designed to articulate fully with the state community colleges.  Courses are geared to be accessible to working professionals (offered in the evenings, weekends, and on-line; field experiences, including student teaching, can typically be done in the educator's work setting).

Resources available:

The DEEC major coordinates with the regional professional development agency, SEEPP, to offer grant-supported courses.  Working students are also eligible for the DEEC Early Childhood Scholarship.

For other financial aid resources, contact the Financial Aid office.

Student Supports provided:

Academic advisers assist students in planning their trajectory in the major and resolving issues with prior credits, etc.

BSU has a fully staffed Academic Achievement Center that offers a range of services to help students succeed in their college experience.
